FINANCIAL LOSS

GRAPE CROPS RUINED RESULT OF LATE FROST Some of the principal growers of grapes in this district are faced with serious financial losses as the result of last week’s frost. The leading grape growing area here is in the Hexton district and an inspection shows that all crops were considerably damaged, while some of the main ones were wiped out altogether. So extensive is the damage that the yield from some crops when they mature will be so little that the returns will not pay for the working costs for the year Instead of there being sufficient grapes grown here to permit sale at outside markets, as has been the case in previous years, it is expected that there will not be enough here to meet the local market.
