REJECTION LIKELY.
AUSTRALIAN PLAN BIG FIVE COUNCIL VOICE CONSULTATION PROSPECTS (11.30 am.) LONDON* Sept. 27. It is not helieved in London that the Council of Foreign Ministers will agree to admit Australia or other “middle belligerent Powers” to its inner d!scussions, says the Evening News’ diplomatic correspondent. While the Foreign. Secretary. Mr. Ernest Bevin. is keenly sympathetic to Dr. H. V. Evatt’s demand that Australia should be fully consulted in the peace-making, there ere difficulties in thfe way cf extending the size of the Foreign Ministers’ Council or any other interim peace conference. It is pointed out. that if Australia and other British Dominions are admitted, Moscow would claim equal rights for 16 associated Soviet Republics. If other “middle Powers” are added to these, the conference would become unwieldy. It is expected, however, that closer consultation will be accorded Australia and other interested Powers.
