RIOTING IN BOMBAY
HINDU MOSLEM CLASH
10 DEAD; 47 INJURED (10 a.m.) BOMBAY, Sept. 27. Ten persons were killed and 47 injured in Hindu-Moslem rioting at Jamblimoholla, a predominantly Moslem locality in Bombay, late last night. About 200 were engaged on either side, using bottles, bricks and staves. Trams were stoned and passengers were pulled out. This is the first cummunal rioting in Bombay for nearly four years. Seven bodies were discovered in side streets in addition to three who died in hospital. There were no further serious outbreaks in the morning, but a crowd stoned a car passing the scene of the riots.
The nolice are patrolling in strength. Reuter’s corresnondcnt in Bombay says that the police commissioner has banned any assembly over five persons in the streets. The order contains a warning that a curfew will be iniDOsed if the situation warrants it. Strong police action continues Rioting flared up again this afternoon when two hostile groups fought a pitched battle in the heart of the city. Six neople were injured before the police rushed in and dispersed the combatants. The casualties to date are 11 killed and 56 injured.
