TROTTING RECORD

“TOTE” INVESTMENTS £159,843 HAP®LED IN DAY (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 27. The sum of £159,843 bandied by the totnlisntor at the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday is the biggest amount handled on a _ single day at any meeting, racing or trotting, held in the South Island, and also constitutes a record for any trotting meeting in the whole of New Zealand. The highest figure previously recorded at Addington was £134,064 10s on the New Zealand Cup day last November, but this total was exceeded when on the record day of the summer meeting the Auckland Trotting Club handled £157,500 10s. The big sum of money handled is remarkable when it is realised that (luring the two days only two favourites on the win machine were, successful. One horse paid more than £l6O, another more than £SO, one more than £2O, and two others double figures, while several place dividends ran into double figures. On the first event, usually a poor betting race, £18,526 10s invested was probably the biggest sun over invested on tm opening race at Addington.
