FAKED BY GERMANS

KATYN MASSACRE SCENE OBSERVERS’ REPORTS LONDON, June 27. Claiming that the source of its information is a member of the S.S., Hellengerg, who was Himmler’s lieutenant, the Stockholm newspaper Tidningen says that von Ribbentrop and Goebbels faked evidence of the Katyn massacre of Polish officers. He adds that bodies from German concentration camps were dressed in Polish uniorms and taken to Katyn. The Germans early in 1943 claimed that they had found a mass grave of Polish officers in the forest at Katyn, near Smolensk, and ascribed the massacre to the Russians. The Russians last year, after capturing the area, established that the massacre was carried out by the Germans to create Russo-Polish disunity. A Norwegian, Erik H'ohansen. who was a prisoner for four years in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, has sent a report to the Allied military authorities describing the mass production of forged money, letters and documents by the Germans. Jewish specialists were used for the work of forging papers which were placed in the pockets of men executed by the Germans in the Katyn forest to serve as evidence against the Russians. The dead were dressed in Polish officers’ uniforms, and the wallets, treated chemically to give the appearance o£ age, were placed in their pockets.
