GERMAN AND JAP. ASSETS PROPERTY IN AMERICA (9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 29. The Alien Property Custodian, Mr. James Markham, urged the Government to retain all property seized f rom the Japanese and Germans in the United States without compensation to the owners. Mr. Markham, in a letter to the Senate sub-committee investigating German resources, said that shortly after the European war started Germany launched a campaign to help German firms in the United States to conceal their activities and assets. His office has seized German interests in 195 firms with German capital totalling 116,500,000 dollars. He added that, the net proceeds of enemy property would be available for claims which the Government had against Japan or Germany or for any other purpose that Congress might decide.
