150 ALLIED CARRIERS
SERVICE IN FAR EAST NEW BRITISH FIGHTER (10 a.m.) LONDON, June 29. There are 100 American and more than 50 British aircraft-carriers cooperating against Japan, says the Press Association. Two Fleet Air Arm pilots who, between them, have shot down five enemy planes, have left for America, where they will demonstrate British methods of attack. Both pilots were decorated with the D.F.C. while on loan to the Royal Air Force. They have taken the Fairey Firefly, a two-seater reconnaissance fighter, which they will use in dummy attacks for instructional purposes. The plane is equipped to carry heavy salvo rockets and is armed with four cannon. It is able to carry a formidable bomb-load. The plane, which is in quantity production for the Royal Navy, is the only two-seater naval fighter in service in the world.
