JIGGERS COLLIDE

WAIPAOA ACCIDENT ' ONE MAN In HOSPITAL As the result of a collision between two railway jiggers, used for conveying maintenance men between points on the Gisborne-Motuhora line, severe injuries were suffered yesterday afternoon by one man. He was: Mr. C. Hayden, . railway worker. Anzac street, a married man with six children. The injured man was admitted to the Cook Hospital late yesterday afternoon, and was operated on to relieve the effects of his injuries, which included painful facial wounds. Two jiggers were proceeding in opposite directions on the section ol line between Waipaoa and Te Karaka. and they met headlong at a point close to the end of a tunnel. The line takes a curve close to the tunnel, and the drivers of the respective carriers did not see each other until it was too late to avoid a Collision. The two machines had considerable impetus, and men riding on each were thrown bn to the line. Apart from Mr. Hayden, the only member of either party to suffer injury was Mr. F. M. Pudriey, Harris street, who received minor facial injuries.

Mr, Hayden was reported to be making satisfactory progress this morning.
