ARRIVAL OF FLEET BRITISH PACIFIC FORCE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Feb. 8. “We have come out here at the first possible moment, and now we expect to get on with the job and take our part alongside our United States allies in finishing this war as soon as we can," said the Gommander-in-Chief of the British Pacific Fleet, Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser, when replying to a welcome to him in the Town Hall. Admiral Fraser arrived from Auckland on Tuesday by car. Admiral Fraser said the British Fleet of the East Indies station had already' taken part in the Pacific war. The attack on .Palembans was a difficult operation. Aircraft from carriers had to fly .a long way and through heavy barrages. The operation was well done and he felt proud of a navy success which was in proper keeping with the Royal Navy’s reputation. It might be thought that the British Fleet was a little late in arriving on the scene in the Pacific, said Admiral Fraser, but the main difficulty was that a balanced force was essential. He referred to the destroyers’ preoccupation with Atlantic submarines particularly.
