WAIROA NOTES
(Own Correspondent.) At an inquest into the death of Judy Wnirau, aged 7 months, who died suddenly at Mahia on Tuesday last, the district coroner, Mr. V. E. Winter, ■ returned a verdict that death was due to natural causes, probably convulsions. Constable W. Houston conducted the proceedings. A unique happening at the Wairoa Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Wednesday) was the fact that three officials bearing the same name, but believed not to be related, took a prominent part in the proceedings. I’hey were Mr. J. Miller, S.M., Sergeant V>. R. Miller, appearing for the police, and Mr. .James Miller, clerk of the court. What proved to be a costly fit of temper was indulged in on Monday night at Wairoa by James Dornnn, 04-year-old labourer, who pleaded guilty in the police court befortMessrs. V. E. Winter and M. J. Gemmell, J’s.P., to charges of using obscene language and of breaking 14 windows in a house, the property of Mrs. Alice Rachael Aspden. After hearing Sergeant W. R. Miller, the bench imposed a, fine of £lO, plus the cost af replacing the windows, £11; Mr. Winter remarking that it was only the age of defendant and ids previous good character hat had prevented him from being sent to gaol.
