BIGGEST BATTLES AHEAD GERMAN STAND ON ODER (10 am. LONDON, Jan. 22. Considered opinion in Moscow is that the hardest battles lie ahead and it will probably take a great effort on both the Western and Eastern Fronts to bring the Germans to their knees, says the Associated Press’ correspondent in Moscow. The Russians are well aware that General Patton, commander of the United States Third Army, was able to drive his tanks across France to the German frontier only to be met by stiff resistance there and even counterattacks. It is felt here that the same thing will happen on the Eastern Front when the Red Army drives up to the Oder River. They will find Germans fighting the hardest kind of fight behind well-prepared positions.
