WAIROA RESOLUTION
BACKING FOR WESTPORT (P.A.) WAIROA, Jan. 22. At a full attendance of the local branch of the Engine Drivers’, Firemen’s and Cleaners’ Association, held yesterday, the following resolution was carried unanimously: “That whole-hearted support be given to the policy adopted by the Westport branch in refusing to run trains with non-members of the A.S.R.S., and that Westport be congratulated on its decision to take a firm stand and compel early announcement of the tribunal’s decision concerning the wage question.”
AUCKLAND COAL SUPPLIES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 20. The Auckland Gas Company has informed the Prime Minister, the Tit. Hon. P. Fraser, by telegram that unless the s.s. Kartigi arrives by Wednesday supplies of coal will be exhausted by Friday and that there is noth'ng in the way of local supplies suitable for gas-making.
The Gisborne branch of the railwavmen’s organisation is understood to be awaiting the outcome of the tribunal consideration of the proposals. There is no present indication of trouble on the East Coast Main Trunk railway.
