BOOKMAKER FINED £2OO

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 3. George Benjamin Nevell, carter, was lined £2OO by Mr. R. Fcrner, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day for carrying on the business of a bookmaker. The police visited Novell's premises on Saturday morning, when they found that £45 had been taken. The police themselves took a further £8 over the telephone while they were there. The police said Nevell had been charged on two previous occasions with breaches of the Gaming Act. In 1930 lie was lined £25, And in 19JJ £IOO.
