BRITISH AIR ATTACK

SUMATRA OIL PLANT SEVEN JAP. PLANES DOWN (1(1 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 7. On Thursday a very accurate and successful attack was delivered by British naval carrier-borne aircraft against an oil refinery at Pagkalan Brandan in Sumatra, reports a communique issued by the Allied Southeast Asia Command. The weather was excellent and the whole weight of bombs from Avengers and missiles from Firellies were fell within the area ol the refinery. Photographs show that the power-house and other important plants received direct hits, as did the oil tanks and many other buildings. Seven enemy aircraft were shot down by the escorting Corsairs and Holluats and a number of enemy aircraft were destroyed on the ground. In addition, British fighters hit two locomotives and set fire to a small tanker. Some aircraft were damaged but none were lost bv enemy action.
