AMERICAN TROOPS’ STAY PREMISES NOW RELEASED (10 a.m.) BRISBANE, Jan. 8. More than 1.000,000 United States troops have, passed through Brisbane since the first Americans arrived here iust before Christmas in 1941. Figures released by the United States Army Headquarters show more thay 250,000 United States troops had been stationed here for varying periods. It is estimated that they spent several million pounds locally on food, clothing and recreation. As the United States Army activities are now mainly concentrated in the north, it has been possible to release office and hospital accommodation and warehouse space which had been requisitioned.
