Official returns issued by the Ministry of Labour disclose that more time and production were lost through strikes last year than in any of the past 12 years, says t\e Daily Express. Till the end of November more than 3.648,000 days were lost in 1944, involving more than 500,000 workers in 2000 strikes. Disputes caused the loss of 2,446,000 working days in the coal-mining industry, compared with 824.000 days in the corresponding period of 1943.
