STEADY DIMINUTION
AUSTRALIA’S WAR BILL
WELL BELOW ESTIMATE (9 a.m.) CANBERRA, March 15. A steady fall in Australia’s recent war expenditure is revealed by a Treasury statement. The total war expenditure in February was £39,683,000, tfie statement fshotvs. This" is'at the rate of less than £480,000,000 a year. ■' The Budget estimate for the current year was £570000,000. If the expenditure for ' the remaining four months of the present financial year remains oh the level of the past two months, the Australian expenditure on war in 1943-44 will fall short of the Treasury estimate by about £50000,000.' The decrease is probably due to {he decrease in the Govenimeift’s payroll because of releases from the army and munitions works and a slackenirig in the programme of the Allied Works Council/ ‘
