The shortage of serviceable trucks constitutes one of China’s gravest problems since a large tonnage of war supplies must be moved from the air terminals to advanced bases before a counter-offensive can be mounted, reports the New York Times' correspondent in Chungking. During the last days of traffic on the Burma Road in May, 1942, hundreds of trucks were -brought hi from Burma, many of which were lost by bombings. The rest have been subjected 'to hard 'overloading, grinding work without proper servicing and repairs. ’Most of China’s transport is necessarily provided by pony carts, wheel-barrow and coolie carriers. Plans are being perfected to gather spare parts in America and fly them to China with hundreds of new motors.
