New Caledonia, at the. other side of the world, is being asked to §’ subscribe liberally to a fund to aid French patriots who refuse to wei k for Germany, and to prepare the way for the liberation of France. The 2} first subscription received was tor J .100,000 francs (£700). 10 Secretary-General Jan Bourgc m presides over the organising commit- _ tee, which includes tlie presidnt of the Administrative Council, the Mayor of Noumea, lieads of Government departments, and church, commerce, agricultural and exservicemen’s organisation leaders. The closing date will be Armistice Day.
