R.A.F. RAIDS ON BURMA
RIVER CRAFT SUNK ENEMY TROOPS BOMBED (British Official ’Wireless.) (1.1 a.m.) RUGBY, July 20. An India Command communique states: “Yesterday the Royal AirForce continued attacks on enemy transportation and troop nositions in the Arakan district and other parts of Japanese-occupied Burma. “At Chindwin, Beaufighters set tiro to an oil storage tank opposite the station and smoke rose to 5000 ft. They also damaged supply sampans and two river launches, one of which was left burning. Mohawks attacked targets at Kalemyo, and Hurricanes, operating along the Irrawaddy River, damaged oil barges and other river craft. “In Arakan, Blenheims dropped bombs on Ratheclaung and Minbya. Hurricanes made low-tevcl attacks on Japanese army huts at several places on the Mayu Peninsula. Further south, other Hurricanes sank a 70ft. boat and several sampans, and damaged others. One of .our aircraft is missing,”
