Hoggins, Gisborne. SUCCESSFUL HOME GUARD DANCE With the object of augmenting the local soldiers' parcel fund, the Patutahi Horne Guard held a successful dance in the Patutahi Hall on Wednesday night. The music was supplied by a Maori orrhes tra, and the programme included a Monte Carlo waltz competition, Miss Hamilton and Mr. P. McGranuachan emerging the winners. A delicious supper was served under the direction of the ladies’ committee of the Patutahi Social Club, assisted by guardsmen. COMING-O F-AG E CELEBRATED Games and competitions were arranged for the entertainment of the guests at the delightful party given recently by Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Quigley, at their home ill Irani)! road in celebration of the eoniing-of-nge of their daughter. Lilias. Delicate pink camellias were chosen for the decoration of the drawing-room, arid violets and roses shed their fragrance upon the supper tabic. Mr. Quigley proposed the health of his daughter, and Mr. Clive Salmon responded on her behalf. Mrs. Quigley was wearing a. graceful frock of black cloque, accented with a shoulder spray of pink stocks and violets. A smart model frock of pastel pink Swiss romainc was worn by the celebrant. Miss V. Quigley was becomingly froekod in royal blue jersey silk. Among those present were Mrs. R. Robertson: Misses H. Meredith, 15. O’Meara, B. Beilis, M. Redstone, C. Gilmer, Y. Renner, J. Gould. NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN Correspondence from the Dominion secretary, Miss Jamieson, in connection with the Dominion conference of the National Council of Women, which will take place in September, was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne branch, held in the Gisborne Women’s Club on Thursday. The chair was taken by Mrs. W. E. Goll'e, and there was a good attendance of members. Mrs. N. Hooper read ail article lrom tile Women’s International Bulletin, entitled "Intellectual Co-operation in World Organisation." A pamphlet from the Franchise Day Jubilee Committee seeking the support of the branch in regard to the celebration, on September 19, of the fiftieth anniversary of the granting of the franchise, was placed before the meeting. Ail appeal was received ■from the Poverty Bay Women’s Representative Committee for material for the making of soft toys for the stocking of the patriotic shop at the Christmas season. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Grant.
