HIGH DAIRY PRICES
RECENT CLEARING SALES High prices have been seemed at some of the dairy clearing sales ill tile CJisborue district recently, one of the outstanding being that of Mr. VV. Hall. The Willows Settlement, on Wednesday. This was a made Jersey herd sold on herd testing records, which showed a high level of production over the past six years, and the prices realised provided the highest average in the district for many years. Messrs. Common, Shelton and Company, Limited, who conducted the sale, reported that there was a large attendance at Mr. Hall's sale, and there was strong competition for the herd of 33 cows, which averaged £l3 Ms, the top 12 averaging £l7 10s Oil. The highest price was £25 10s, with another at £23, while the next six ranged from £ls 5s to £IS 10s, and the others from £3 10s to £l4 10s. Two farm horses soli} at £IS 10s and £4O ss. Mr. Hall’s herd has had a good average O".'.'!' the past six years, and last season, n very dry one. the herd average was 3171 b. of butterfat; the best season being two years ago when the figure stood at 3231 b. The hielu'-t-priccu cow produced 3921 b. of fat last, season. 4521 b. the previous season, und 4'! t ii. in ' 1939-40. The socoml highest p: ,; co of £23 was for a cow which produced 41'rh. last season and 4461 b. a few years ago.
At a previous sale o:i account of Mr. U. Lindsay, Tnruheru, conducted by Messrs. Common. Shelton and Company, Limited, iiino pedigree Jersey and grade Jersey cows aad springing heifers averaged £IS 17»_. A pedigree springing heifer sold at 25gns. and a small one at lOgns.. while pedigree cows ranged from 161 to 20Jgiis. and grade cows from i’ll 15s to £22 15s. A two-year-o! l pedigree bull sold at 36gns., and yenriiims at 7gns. and Digits. This herd was well wintered, tutrned out in attractive order and sold on herd-testing records. Messrs. Dalgety and Company. Limited report that at a clearing sale' on account of Mr. J. C. Wilson. Te Karakit, 3S cows, including late culvers, averaged £1 3s. with a tap price ,>f £l2. Two heifers sold at £4 15s and £6. Pigs were in demand, breeding sows selling at £6 and £7 15s, Tnmworth cross stores at 35s and small at 275.
