AUSTRIAN’S INVENTION TESTS IN AMERICA (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 15. A ship's propeller, which steers as well as propels a vessel, either forwards, or sideways, was demonstrated in New Y r ork. The propeller is an Austrian invention. The alien property custodian has taken over the patent. The Navy Department is reported to be interested in the propeller which, it is stated, possesses unique merits lor employment in craft intended for shallow water, like landing barges, river gunboats and also ships in which manoeuvrability can be attained by altering the pitch of the vertical blade which will revolve around on a horizontal axis.
