SATURDAY CLOSING

NEW PLYMOUTH DRAPERS Many drapers in Now Plymouth will dose on Saturday morning and so ohserve a five-day week. At a meeting of retailers in Xew Plymouth, when il was decided to make no general i-liange in shopping hours, it was also pointed out that firms retained their individual rights to make any changes where they felt Ihc,y were warranted. Il was made clear that their independent decisions would not be regarded as disloyalty to the decision its a whole, hut ihat other linns would not he hound to follow their example if they did not wish to do so. On Ihe strength of this understanding, therefore, several drapers have decided to close on Saturday morning. The present position in regard to shopping hours is therefore a democratic one, depending on the circumstances in which a partciular linn is placed, stock and staffing problems being a main factor in wartime.
