FLYING MEDAL .AWARDS FORMER WAIROA PILOT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 12Two recently commissioned New Zealand Airmen serving overseas in the Royal New Zealand Air Force have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. They ■ n:■ Pilot Officer, formerly Flight Sergeant, William Arthur Hamilton, whose mother is Mrs. A. Hamilton, Kawhatau, Mangaweka, and PilotOfficer. formerly Sergeant, Rae Jessop Taaffe, whose father is Mr. C. P. Taafl'e, Hastings. The citations state: “Pilot Officer Hamilton has displayed high courage and shown exceptional navigational ability on his missions which have included a daylight attack on U-boat yards at Danz.ig and have been mostly against heavily defended targets in Germany. “Pilot Officer Taaffe at all times has pressed home his attacks with the utmost determination and courage and scored many brilliant hits with bombs.” Pilot Officer Hamilton was born at KaWhatau in 1914 and educated at the Wanganui Technical CollegePilot Officer Taaffe was born at Frasertown, Hawke’s Bay. in 1918 and educated at the Hastings High School.
