FARMERS' GUMBOOTS
SUPPLIES EXHAUSTED MINISTRY STATES POSITION Except for minor quantities held for special purposes all stocks ol gumboots are exhausted, states a letter from the Ministry of Supply received by the National Dairy Association of New Zealand, Limited. Realising the needs of dairymen, dairy factory workers and others engaged in wet occupations, state; the letter, the Ministry has sent forward an application for a special shipment, and a favourable reply is hoped for. However, this would be dependent upon the needs of the armed forces and the domestic rubber position overseas. Shipping space was also a factor in obtaining delivery. The factory controller, the letter continues, is at .present investigating the possibilities of manufacturing gumboots locally. This involved the use of some raw rubber as well -as a large percentage of reclaimed rubber. Supplies of both were very limited. The minor quantities mentioned as still held are for seamen, fishermen and the armed forces. Those allocated (O seamen were not distributed when they came to hand last-year, but with the approach of winter distribution was now proceeding rapidly.
