THUNDERBOLT FIGHTERS TERRIFIC PRESSURE (1C.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 3. A message from Farmingdale, New York, says that two army pilots in Republic P 47 Thunderbolts attained a speed of 725 miles an hour in downward power dives. Both reported diving from 35,000 to 25,000 ft. One pilot said the pressure was so great that he could not move the sticks. Therefore he used the crank controlling the elevator to trim the tabs.

The Thunderbolts have the highest powered Double-Wasp 2000 h.p. engine, two 20 m.m. cannon and up to 10 .sin. calibre machine guns. Its speed is over 400 miles an hour.
