HOME GUARD TYRES
NOT ARMY RESPONSIBILITY PARADE REQUIREMENTS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The army is unable to accept the responsibility of providing' for the replacement of tyres of vehicles used for Home Guard purposes, the Minister of Primary Production for War Purposes, the Hon. W. J. Poison, to-day. “Guardsmen who require replacements will be required to apply for a license in the ordinary way, Mr. Poison said. Other matters concerning which decisions had been made were that provision was to be made to exempt members from parades wjien battalion commanders were satisfied that the members were required for essential work during the busy seasons, one army vehicle would be made available for the headquarters of each battalion, and members of the Home Guard who had passed the compulsory age of 51 would be required to continue to serve. Mr. Poison said that it might be necessary to extend the age for Home Guard service. He added that members were required to parade in civilian clothing until uniforms were issued.
