BANK OF NEW ZEALAND

CHIEF AUDITOR RESIGNS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The resignation of Mr. A. L. Hempton, chief auditor of the Bank of New Zealand, was announced by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, to-day. ■ Mr. Hempton finishes his duties ai the end of the month. He has held the position since December, 19,10. He joined the Bank of New Zealand in 1889, and after serving in several places in the Dominion was assistant London manager for two years." He was assistant general manager from 1927 to 1980. Mr. Fraser expressed the Government’s appreciation of Mr. Hempton’s faithful and efficient service. Mr. David Firth Reid has been appointed to succeed Mr. Hempton. Until recently Mr. Reid was London manager. He is a Southlander who joined the Colonial Bank of New Zealand in 1894 and transferred to the Bank of New Zealand on the amalgamation. From 1914 to 1932 he was manager at Dargaville, Fielding Palmerston North and Wellington in that order. He was then apointed manager in London. He has been chairman of the British Overseas Banks, Associated Australian Banks. New Zealand Society in London, and the New Zealand War Services Executive Committee. He has also been a vice-president of the British Bankers' Association.
