OFFENSIVE CONTINUED
R.A.F. OVER GERMANY SMALL GERMAN RAIDS (11 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 16. The Air Ministry announces that Royal Air Force bombers last night attacked objectives in the west of Germany. One enemy fighter was destroyed. Five of our planes are missing. A small number of night raiders bombed coastal districts of East Anglia and the north-east of England. There were no casualties and slight damage. Before midnight on Friday there was slight enemy activity over the coastal areas of East Anglia. A few bombs were dropped but little damage is reported. There was a little enemy activity over the south and south-east coasts of England yesterday afternoon. Bombs which were dropped at two places caused some damage to houses and a small number of casualties. The Berlin radio says that the Luftwaffe attacked military objectives in Ipswich, causing fires in the harbour area. Large fires were started at Eastbourne and hits were scored with heavy bombs on a naval" dockyard at Portsmouth.
