“NOT ANY WORSE”
BATTLE OF ATLANTIC CANADIAN NAVY’S PART (2.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, Aug. 13. The Minister of the Navy, Mr. K. C. MacDonald, said it is probable that Britain will give the United States some of the 100 warships now under construction in Canada for Britain, mainly corvettes and mine-sweepers Mr. MacDonald said that 50 had been commissioned for the navy th:s year. Mr. MacDonald said: “The battle of the Atlantic is hot any worse. Ships are still going through. Canadian warships are doing one-third of the escort, the United States one-third, and the British likewise are taking a share. In addition, Canadian ships are convipymg north and south and • operating down to the Carribeah.” Mr. MacDonald added that they were making every effort to keep submarines out of the St. Lawrence, but it was impossible to guarantee thaa submarine would not come in. They could enter almost any area.
