Mr. G. J. A. Johnstone, Sievwright lane, formerly clerk to the court of Gisborne, has suffered a severe illness, but his many friends hope for an early recovery. Mr. A. W. M. Greig, citriculturist, Department of Agriculture, Wellington, who had been in Gisborne for the past few days, left to-day for Tauranga. Mr. Frank Allen, Hastings, who was for some time a representative of the T. and G. Mutual Life Assurance Society in Gisborne, has received notice of his temporary appointment as district superintendent far the society at its Napier branch. Miss M. Barclay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Barclay, Black street, Wairoa, was a successful candidate in the junior State nursing examinations recently held in Auckland. She was trained in the Auckland Public Hospital.
