GERMAN U-BOAT BASE RAIDERS OVER BRITAIN (British Official Wireless.) (10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, June 29. An Air Ministry communique states that last night I 'Royal Air Force bombers attacked the submarine base at St. Nazaire, while fighters attacked enemy airfields and railway objectives in occupied France and enemy shipping in the English Channel. One bomber is missing. • A large merchant ship was left stationary and listing when two bombcarrying Hurricanes attacked an enemy convoy off the French coast last night. Enemy aircraft were over districts on the west and south coasts of England. Bombs dropped on Weston-Super-Mare started fires and damaged residential and shopping areas. A number of casualties are reported. Elsewhere the damage and casualties were light. Two enemy aircraft were destroyed. The fires were under control by 6 Boston bombers, escorted by fighters, bombed the railway yards at Hazebruck. Three enemy fighters were destroyed. Five Royal Air Force planes are missing.
