ADVANCE HAMPERED

ROMMEL IN EGYPT ALL PASSES BLOCKED (2.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 26. . British sappers did much to hamper General Rommel’s advance when it v/as decided .to withdraw the British forces from the frontier line. Enemy columns consisting of armoured cars, mobile guns, antitank guns, and motorised infantry found file roads crossing the escarpment in all passes from the coast to Halfaya and further south blown up. Ip some cases, two tons of dynamite was used. The sky was illuminated with terrific flashes. The wrecking of Halfaya Pass and the winding road across .the escarpment and other passes was such a perfect piece of work that they were rendered impassable for a while. British sappers also destroyed a considerable number of fuel and food dumps.
