Detective-Sergeant W. Murray, one of Wellington’s best known and popular police officers, has been ti'ansferred to Hamilton and will leave for there shortly. He has been 20 years in Wellington—his full period of service—and has been associated with many of the major episodes of criminal investigation work in Wellington and district.

Lieutenant N/K. Brown, R.N.R., of Richmond, Nelson, who was a prisoner on the Altmark, was in London recently on leave, states a London correspondent. Lieutenant Brown was in the Tairoa when she was sunk, and spent three days in the Graf Spee before being transferred to the Altmark. He was later in the Esperance Bay when she was attacked by Heinkels, which dropped 50 bombs around her. He is now in one of Britain’s newest auxiliary aircraftcarriers. The Rev. Father James O’Neill, the aged priest of Dunedin who is at present on a visit to Ireland, celebrated the diamond jubilee of bis ordination as a. priest early in the present year. On the occasion of his jubilee Father O’Neill had presented to him the diamond jubilee medal of the Confraternity of the Holy Family, of which order he has been a member for 70 years. Father. O’Neill, at one time of Queenstown, Milton, arid Waikiwi, was the first priest to be’ ordained in New Zealand south of Cook Strait.
