BIG BRITISH TANKS
RELIANCE IN BATTLE PRAISE FROM CREWS (Reed. Dec. 2, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 1. Good as the American tanks have proved they are only a small part of our armoured fighting vehicles, the bulk of which are British made, states Reuter’s correspondent with the Army in Libya. The tank crews particularly praise the heavy British tanks which have proved to be almost unable to be knocked out. The crews used some which were temporarily disabled as stationary pill boxes from which they continued to plaster the Germans with the guns. The tanks were afterwards repaired and again went into action. ‘ The Times correspondent with the Bth Army Headquarters says that with repaired tanks and reserves the British tank force remains formidable and the relief of Tobruk has made available an additional largb force of tanks. The advantage should be with the British in the decisive part which the armoured units are likely to play in the battle. An Exchange Telegraph Agency despatch from an armoured brigade headquarters in Libya says that half of the Axis tanks participating in the latest thrusts in the Sidi Rezegh area have been disabled.
