200,000 OPOSSUM SKINS
TRAPPERS REAUSE £60,000 RECORD SEASON CLOSES The. holding ,of a supplementary sale of opossum skins in Dunedin last week brought to, a close what must constitute, a record for New Zealand, as approximately 200,000 skins were disposed of in Dunedin alone for a return to trappers of over £60,000. Dunedin' is the chief market for opossum skins, and trappers from all over the Dominion consign their skins to the auctions in this centre. It has Been a remarkable season for suppliers who have received an average of around 6s a skin, and thus have enjoyed an exceptionally profitable season. As in the case of the rabbit, new uses have been found for opossum. skins, and there has been a keen demand from overseas for skins from New Zealand.
