COW RUNS AMOK
HECTIC HOUR SPENT RAILWAY- SIDING THRILLS SYDNEY. Oct. 25 A cow with no previous history of vice launched a blitzkrieg last Sunday on Gosford railway station. 50 miles from Sydney. For an hour she had complete command of the battlefield. The cow was in a stock train from the north and at Gosford porters opened the door of her truck to remove another cow which wa; injured.
The rebel escaped and charged down the platform. People scattered for cover,, except one women who fainted. The cow rushed past her, its objective the parcel office. The door was shut, so the cow bellowed her wrath and did another turn along the platform. After vainly charging the engine of the goods train and seeing the train steam out, the cow chased it along the permanent way. A red flag in an official’s hand attracted the cow, and she made a rush at the man, who dodged. The Brisbane mail train was forced to slow down to .avoid the animal, which charged it and bounced off into the embankment.
Hundreds of spectators, two police sergeants, and a constable, railway officials, and an impounding officer converged on the cow to drive it to the gates of the crossing, where it could be captured. A tame cow was brought from the pound to help entice it along, but the wild cow turned and scattered some of the party up a 16ft. embankment. Here it charged a small wooden building, tossed it into the air, and trampled it to matchwood. A police sergeant fired six shots into the animal from 50 yards’ range, but failed, to kill it. Another shot from a revolver dropped it in its tracks.
