REMUERA SEAT
MR. ENDEAN APPROVED DIFFICULTIES OVERCOME LEADERS’ ADDRESSES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. After hearing addresses by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. S. G. Holland, and the Dominion president of the party, Mr. Alexander Gordon, on Saturday night, the Remuera electorate committee of the New Zealand National Party resolved to confirm officially the candidature of the sitting member, Mr. W. P. Endean, at the forthcoming general election. There was a large attendance at the meeting. The committee accorded Mr. Holland and Mr. Gordon a unanimous vote of thanks, loyalty and confidence. The decision is regarded as a solution of the difficulties which occurred recently in the electorate. Mr. Endean announced early in June that if a general election were held this year he would again be a candidate for the seat. The electorate committee of the National Party, under the latter’s constitution, called for nominations of intending candidates as a preliminary to holding a postal selection ballot of party members in the electorate. Five nominations, were received, but Mr. Endean’s name was not submitted, and he announced that he intended to stand for the seat as a National Independent candidate. The difficulty was submitted to Mr. Holland, who stated that Mr. Endean would receive his support and that of the Parliamentary party, thus becoming the official candidate. A postal ballot was taken on the question whether Mr. Endean’s candidature should be approved, and the decision was in the affirmative by 67G votes to 503.
