CHURCHILL CHEERED RETURN TO LONDON PLANS FOR BROADCAST (Elec. Tel Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 20, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 19. The Prime Minister, Mr. Winston Churchill, was given a tremendous reception on his arrival in London from the port where he landed on his return from his mid-ocean talks with President Roosevelt. Crowds cheered from streets and buses: Traffic was held up. Mr. Churchill presided at a meeting of the War Cabinet. He is to give a broadcast address at 9 p.m., British standard time, on Sunday. Mr. Churchill had an audience with the King to-day and afterwards lunched with His Majesty at Buckingham Palace. Mr. Churchill was loudly cheered by a large crowd as he drove from Downing Street. This afternoon Mr. Churchill, accompanied by Mrs. Churchill, witnessed a private showing at the Ministry of Information of a film of his meeting with President Roosevelt. The King also visited the Ministry of Information to witness a screening of the film. V Sign in Iceland “We came here to keep the Germans away from Iceland,” Mr. Churchill said to cheering crowds gathered outside Parliament House when he visited Reykjavik on Saturday last. Addressing them from a balcony, he said: “We will trouble your life as little as possible and guarantee, together with the United States, that after the war your culture will be linked with a free future.” He gave the V sign when stepping ashore at Reykjavik. Mr. Churchill won. all hearts ■at Reykjavik. His visit was the subject of many tributes in the Reykjavik press, one leading article declaring it was fitting that the smallest democratic nation in the world should, be the first visited by the British Prime Minister after .his historic conference with President Roosevelt.
