BACK FROM FRANCE
ALLIED OFFICERS RETURN TO SYRIA (Reed. Aug. 18. 9 a.m.) BEIRUT, Aug. 16. A contingent of Allied officers totalling approximately a quarter «of the prisoners of war taken to France from Syria, has arrived at Beirut from Marseilles under the armistice agreement. The officers, after their capture, were flown from Beirut to Athens, and later passed through Yugoslavia, Austria and Germany. In Germany they saw prison camps containing British and French soldiers. The French appeai'ed harshly treated.
