SALES TAX FOR JAPS.
FOOD AND LUXURIES (Reed. Aug. 16, 11.15 aim) TOKIO, Aug. 15. A Japanese national sales tax, called a consumption tax, will be imposed as from October 1 on liquors, sugar, textiles, refreshments, amusements and luxuries, including jewellery. The authorities said the measure was designed to absorb purchasing power.
