FIERCE R.A.F. RAIDS
TARGETS IN LIBYA BARDIA AND TRIPOLI (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 11.20 a.m. RUGBY, Aug. 14. ‘‘Royal Air Force bombers carried out attacks on Bardia during Tuesday night,” states a communique issued by Royal Air Force Headquarters in the Middle East. “Direct hits were obtained on the customs house, motor transport and workshops. Enemy night fighters were seerr’ but they did not intercept the raiders. Bombs were dropped on Derna. “During the same night, heavy bombers of the Royal Air Force carried out an attack on military objectives in Tripoli. The railway station was destroyed by our bombs and a number of fires were started at other targets. Motor transport on the coast road to Benghazi was also machinegunned. * “Fleet Air Arm aircraft dropped bombs on the aerodromes of Catania and Gerbini and machine-gunned dispersed aircraft. One Cant 50G was shot down by Hurricanes off Sicily on Monday. From all operations, all our planes returned safely.”
