GENERAL ELECTION
NATIONAL NOMINEE TIMARU ELECTORATE (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, this day. Subject to confirmation of the Canterbury provincial executive, Mr. Phil McDonald, Greymouth, will be the National Party ' candidate for the Tirnaru electorate. Mr. McDonald, who is 34, has taken an active part in the National Party. He is chairman of the Grey branch and is the Westland delegate on the Canterbury divisional executive and one of the Canterbury representatives on the Dominion council of the party. TO OPPOSE MR. J. A. LEE A postal ballot to determine the Labour Party nomination for the Grey Lynn electorate resulted in the selection of Mr. J. Sayegh. There were three other aspirants for nomination, Messrs. F. Hackett, J. J. Sullivan and P. McGregor Stewart. Mr. Sayegh is chairman of the Auckland Transport Board and is a member of the harbour board, the hospital board, and the Auckland Electric-Power Board. He has been connected with the Labour Party for the past 20 years, and contested the city mayoralty at the recent elections. The present member for Grey Lynn is the leader of the Democratic Labour Party, Mr. Lee. MR. HOLLAND’S OPPONENT The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. S. G. Holland, is to be opposed by Labour in the contest for the Christchurch North seat at the general election. His opponent is to be Mr. G. Manning, a Labour member of the Christchurch City Council and secretary of the Workers’ Educational Association.
