“Lessons Learnt in Crete”
Lessons learnt in Crete are mentioned in a letter received from Corporal W. A. Glue, formerly a reporter on The Christchurch Press. He savs “there was a lecture given by the general to the N.C.O.s and officers on the Crete ‘do’ and the lessons learnt from that campaign. Two remarks he made might ,be passed on if the censor allows. He said that there were so many Hun aeroplanes about that the swallows migrated earlier than usuai (that is supposed to be a fact); also that even if we had chased the Hun off the island we would have been forced to evacuate it because of the impossibility of landing sufficient food while the port was bbing'bombed.”
