NORTHERN MAORI SEAT

NATIONAL CANDIDATE After a meeting lasting all night, Maori members of the National Party in the north selected Mr. Eru Pou, of Kaikohe, to contest the Northern Maori seat in the National Party interests in the coming election. The meeting was held at Waiomio. The names of six candidates were submitted. Mr. Eru Pou is well known in the north among both Maoris and Europeans, being an officer of the Native Department. He was prominently associated with the organisation of the centennial celebrations at Waitangi and also has been connected with the organisation of sport, especially football, among the younger Maoris. The present member for the Northern Maori seat is the Hon. P K. Paikea (Government). DUNEDIN SEATS It is announced that LieutenantColonel A. S. Falconer, at present serving in the Middle East, has been nominated as the National Party candidate for the Dunedin North seat, subject to the approval of the divisional executive in Wellington. The seat is held by Mr. J. W. Munro (Government). Mr. E. P. Aldedman has been nominated for the Dunedin Central seat on the same condition. This seat is held by Mr. P. Neilson (Government). BALLOT AT WANGANUI A former Minister of Railways, Mr. William A. Veitch, is one of three candidates seeking nomination as the official National Party candidate for the Wanganui electorate. One of the others is Mrs. A. K. Mnc’can, who has taken a leading part in women’s activities, and the third nominee is Mr. N. M. Izard, barrister and solicitor. A postal ballot is being taken.
