OPOTIKI MATCHES
BASKETBALL TEAMS TWO FROM GISBORNE Two Gisborne A Grade basketball teams travelled to Opotiki during the week-end to play return matches against the Opotiki teams which recently travelled to Gisborne. Hie games resulted:—Marathon 19, Opotiki Old Girls A 10; Opotiki Old Girls B 20, Mangapapa 14; Opotiki representatives 22, Gisborne team 15. The Marathon-Opotiki Old Girls A game was very even, with steady play and accurate passing on the part of Marathon, with the three goalies playing a well-combined game. Old Girls played a good defensive game. Both Mangapapa and Opotiki Old Girls B were slow in starting, but Old Girls' score gradually began to mount up, Miss M. Thornton’s goal-shooting being responsible for this. Mangapapa’s combination was a little lagged, but in the second half they did better and some good passing was seen. A mixed team from both Marathon and Mangapapa was chosen and played an Opotiki representative team, the match proving very fast with some splendid passing and combination on both sides. Accurate shooting kept the scores very even until live minutes before time, when Opotiki scored seven goals in quick succession. The game proved one of the fastest that Gisborne players have taken part in this year and was thoroughly enjoyed by the visitors. The mixed Gisborne team comprised:— Goals, Misses N. Ansell, B.
