WELLINGTON, this day,

Equipment which, when completed, will enable ice cream to be manufactured on the spot, stored and trans-, ported to' the New Zealand forces in the Middle East, has been authorised by the National Patriotic Fund Board. A contract has been let for the construction of a plant in Wellington. Besides providing for ice cream, it will cool drinks. Its capacity will be 250 to 300 gallons of ice cream for an eight-hour working day and a greater quantity if required.

A mobile unit will be included in the equipment ensuring supplies being available for general hospitals, field ambulances and canteens in the forward areas.
