DEFENCE OF CRETE

LORD GOWRIE’S TRIBUTE

(Reed. June 4, 10 a.m.) CANBERRA, June 4

A warm message of congratulation was sent by the Governor-General, Lord Gowrie, to Major-General B. C. Freyberg, the Allied commander in Crete: —“I am thrilled with admiration of the heroic achievements of all ranks under your command in Crete. Under your inspired leadership, and side by side with our gallant Greek allies, they fought with courage and tenacity which will add another glorious page to the military history of the Empire.”
