AUCKLAND DECLINE (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Customs receipts at Auckland for -May totalled £237,548, compared with £317,166 in the previous May. Beer excise yielded £23,674, empared with £23,203 and sales tax £104,247, compared with the record for May last year of £111,807. Collections of sales tax in the first five months of this year totalled £464,475, compared with £451,782. Customs revenue in the first five months totalled £1,173,314, compared with £1,413,965.
Under the heading war expenses account £119,596 was collected in May, compared with £19,128. The total for the five months is £540,689, compared with £90,810.
CANTERBURY FIGURES (Per Press AanodaUon.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A sharp drop in the amount of customs collections at Christchurch is shown both for the May collections and the collections in the first two months qf the financial year, when compared with the figures for last year. Collections last month totalled £86,088, against £135,959 in May of last year, and collections for the two months of April and May are down by £58,245. Beer duty shows a substantial rise for the month and the period, and because of greatly-increased payments into ihc war expenses account the total of collections is greater. The totals are: May, J 940, £234,575; May, 1941. £226,306: April-May. 1940. £393,612; April-May, 1941, £423.588-
